At Ease with the Eisenhower Society

You know the lyrics, “Summertime and the livin’ is easy…?” Join us for an easy living experience, “At Ease with the Eisenhower Society,” as we look back on the Eisenhower Presidency and the 1950s on July 11th from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at the World War II American Experience museum, 845 Crooked Creek Road, Gettysburg.

Attendees may dress in their 1950s best if they wish, view the museum exhibits at their leisure, attend the interpretive talk, Sun Porch Summits: Eisenhower’s Home and the Art of Personal Diplomacy by Park Ranger John Tuskan, or sit in a Jeep to take photos with family and friends. Thanks to our hosts Adam and Loni Buck, those attending “At Ease” have the option to purchase a World War II vehicle ride for an extra fee of $15.00 a person. These reduced price, 10-minute rides are on either a World War II halftrack, Jeep or truck. It’s first come, first served to see which vehicle you ride in!

While you enjoy dinner in the motor pool garage, sip a glass of wine, play Trivia with your tablemates, and listen to the music of “Oldies by Request,” with disc jockey Philip Magaldi.

Our dinner caterer is Ben Schneider of Boneyard Barbeque from Hanover, Pa. Enjoy an all-you-can-eat dinner buffet featuring smoked pulled pork and grilled sliced chicken breast. Side dishes include grilled mixed vegetables with onions, peppers, mushrooms, zucchini, squash and cherry tomatoes, Caesar salad with dressing and croutons on the side, creamy coleslaw, baked beans with smoked ground sausage, sandwich rolls and multiple types of barbeque sauce. For dessert, enjoy brownies and chocolate chip cookies. We did a taste test of the food. Everything was delicious!

After dinner, find out if you have won the Trivia contest or a door prize. Our thirty-minutes of after dinner musical entertainment is the top song from each year of Eisenhower’s presidency. Will you be able to guess what song was on top of the charts for each year? Guests are welcome to dance to the music or just continue to visit with friends.

The ‘At Ease” ticket price is $45 a person, which includes everything but the vehicle ride. You may reserve a table for six for $270. If you wish to participate in the vehicle ride, tickets for that are available as an additional purchase below.
