At Ease with the Eisenhower Society

All Enjoyed “At Ease with the Eisenhower Society”

Our members and guests enjoyed “At Ease with the Eisenhower Society” on Saturday, July 11th  The World War II American Experience museum was our host. Guests registered at 4 p.m. and had a chance to tour the museum which houses a wonderful collection of World War II artifacts, vehicles and home-front items. Guests also had the chance to purchase a ride in a World War II Jeep, halftrack or truck.

Our theme this year was Ike, Mamie and the 1950s. Park Ranger John Tuskan presented the program, “Sun Porch Summits: Eisenhower’s Home and the Art of Personal Diplomacy” to a large crowd of attendees. A Jeep was set up as a photo booth and guests enjoyed taking pictures while sitting in it.

Our dinner in the motor pool garage was delicious! It was catered by Ben Schneider of Boneyard Barbeque. Guests also enjoyed a glass of wine, courtesy of Duane and Linda Williams.  While waiting to go to the buffet, guests seated at each table worked on the trivia questions for “Ike, Mamie and the 1950s.”

After dinner, trivia answers were given. Of the 10 possible points, one table had 9, and three others had 8, 7 and 6 respectively.  All were awarded Dairy Queen of Gettysburg gift certificates. We also drew numbers for door prizes including a U S. flag that was flown at the Eisenhower National Historic Site on the Fourth of July.  Other prizes were two Dobbin House gift certificates, two Gettysburg Eddie’s gift certificates, a Beyond the Battle gift certificate from Gettysburg History and an I Like Ike mug from Event Network. Thank you, door prize donors!  The person at each table with a birthday closest to Eisenhower’s on October 14th got to take home the 250th flag centerpieces donated by Chris Burne.

In keeping with our 1950s theme, DJ Philip Magaldi of “Oldies by Request,” played music of the 1950s during dinner. Afterword he played the top song from each year of Ike’s presidency.
