2025 Eisenhower Society Birthday Commemoration
On Saturday, October 11, 2025, the Society commemorated the 135th anniversary of Dwight D. Eisenhower’s birth. The Eisenhower Society held its annual board meeting at 10 a.m. to thank departing trustees, elect new trustees, elect officers, and conduct society business. At 12:00 noon a short commemorative program, scholarship presentations, and the presentation of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Society ROTC Leadership Award was held at the “Eisenhower at Gettysburg” statue outside his retirement office on the Gettysburg College campus.
Program chair Paul Shevchuk welcomed everyone to the commemoration. After the presentation of the colors by the Allied Veterans Honor Guard and the flag salute, Eisenhower Society Trustee Jody Wilson read an excerpt from President Eisenhower’s First Inaugural Address, the “Heart of America.” Then Colonel Tom Vossler, Ret., Trustee, presented the Dwight D. Following the program, the Eisenhower Society members enjoyed a fabulous buffet luncheon at the Historic Dobbin House, Gettysburg. Our luncheon speaker was Dr. Brian C. Black, Professor at Penn State/Altoona. His talk, entitled “Ike’s Road Trip,” discussed Eisenhower’s participation in the Army’s 1919 Transcontinental Convoy.
